STAFF ENVIRONMENTAL Specialist

This position reports to the Environmental Manager.  Peers include other Environmental Specialists.

KEY ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare and submit timely monitoring, performance, and compliance reports to all applicable agencies and Corporate HES. 
  • Monthly compilation, calculation, and analysis of plant operating data to ensure compliance with operating permits and regulatory requirements including KPDES, KDAQ, RCRA, HWSA 
  • Implement, support, and sustain site management system activities in accordance with the requirements of ISO 14001, ISO 9001, ISO 45001, and the Arkema Integrated Management System (AIMS). 
  • Conduct internal audits to ensure compliance with all Local, State and Federal laws, permits, and regulations, as well as Corporate and Plant standards and procedures.
  • Prepare environmental reviews for plant engineering projects and act as a technical resource for process areas to ensure environmental permitting and regulatory requirements.
  • Keep current with constantly changing laws and regulations and provide guidance to the plant in the interpretation of the requirements and develop programs to meet the regulations.
  • Ensure timely reporting of releases, permit excursions, etc. to regulatory agencies and corporate contacts.
  • Develop and conduct environmental training of plant personnel.
  • Work with HES, Operations, and Maintenance to maintain plant HES procedures and update as necessary.
  • Prepare and submit permitting packages to State and Federal agencies as required.
  • Interact with corporate contacts, outside consultants, and State and Federal agencies to assure compliance with environmental and corporate requirements.

REQUIRED EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS/WORK EXPERIENCE

This position requires a minimum of B.S. degree in one or more of the following curriculums; Environmental Engineering, Occupational Safety and Health, Mechanical Engineering, and/or Chemical Engineering with 2-3 years relevant engineering experience.  Knowledge and experience in the day-to-day management of environmental activities in a plant environment preferred with good interpersonal communication, technical writing, and public speaking skills and the ability to read and develop a good understanding of environmental regulations.
