Plant Process Engineer
Process Technology position that is located at the Calvert City plant, reporting to the Lead Process Technology Engineer. Peers include corporate process technology engineers, production supervisors, process engineers, maintenance, lab, safety, and environmental supervisors and engineers.
Job Dimensions
- Support all facets of process technology at the Calvert City, KY site through involvement in process improvement projects, reliability improvement projects, quality improvement projects, and HES related projects.
- Specify and develop process technology in support of expansion projects, plant improvements, etc. Work independently in evaluation, selection, and application of engineering practices to meet project requirements, including highly complex technologies. The process work performed has significant interaction across both corporate and plant groups required to set priorities, communicate results and achieve goals.
Key Activities and Responsibilities
- Major Capital Projects: Assist in design & implementation of major capital projects to support expansion and optimization of processes.
- Process Safety Management- Initiate MOC’s, maintain area work instructions, process safety information, JSA’s and develop new work instructions/procedures as required.
· Process Improvement - Identify and recommend process improvement projects to the department manager and area supervisors. Track all costs and work performed. Initiate project requests to the engineering department, providing technical support and coordination of activities as needed to complete the project.
· Provide technical support to the process production areas as required on a daily basis.
· Process Technology - Assist with plant production trials. Assist production supervisors and corporate technical personnel in the scheduling and implementation of product trials.
Problem solving and troubleshooting of existing processes.
Context and Environment
Work with all plant departments to support plant management goals, for example: with project engineers as a team member to implement projects, with accounting to develop financial analysis, with maintenance and operations to implement change or to evaluate existing systems, with Environmental to develop permits and with safety to evaluate cause and effect.
Work with corporate departments to support plant management goals, with R&D group in bringing new product trials to the plant, with the PT group in preparing for product trials and in identification of new technologies for new capital projects and for improving the current process, with Central Engineering group to support major capital project implementation.
The incumbent must comply with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, safety, environmental, quality standards, and corporate policies.
Education/Qualifications/Work Experience Required
BS degree Chemical Engineering or equivalent in engineering. Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in a PSM chemical manufacturing environment. Six Sigma Greenbelt certified or active pursuit of certification preferred. Recognized as a deep and broad resource in the principles and theories of chemical engineering as demonstrated by a history of technical accomplishments and demonstrated knowledge of advanced theory and principles is required. Breadth and depth of knowledge of the laws and rules governing the design and implementation of solutions regarding chemical processes. These include federal laws regarding environmental compliance issues (EPA), process hazards techniques (OSHA), and engineering standards.
