Plant Manager – Calumet City 

Job dimensions (scope, responsibility)

  •  Provide the leadership, direction, and management for all aspects of the plant's operation
  • Responsible for Team Development including ability to coach, empower, set expectations, drive accountability, while fostering strong collaboration and teamwork
  • Develop, institute and relentlessly carry through an ever-improving EHS Program to achieve the ultimate goal of no safety or environmental incidents
  • Create and implement programs, policies and procedures to continuously improve the quality and productivity of the plant while meeting trade working capital targets.
  • Responsible for meeting site and business Key Performance Indicators.
  • Direct reports include production manager, EHS specialist, process engineer, logistics manager and quality manager.

Activities (tasks, resource, outcome)

  • Responsible for the safe operation of the plant and compliance with all statutory and regulatory requirements.
  • Practice Safe work habits in accordance with OSHA, EPA guidelines, and Bostik specific EHS expectations
  • Drive best in class 5S and housekeeping expectations.
  • Lead site adherence to the Quality Management System and reduction in the cost of poor quality.
  • Drive culture of root cause analysis using problem solving tools to minimize repeat issues
  • Work closely with Customer Service, Product Line management and Sales to achieve the best On- Time Delivery results while meeting the financial and inventory goals of the plant
  • Achieve the Manufacturing Expense Budget while optimizing operations to attain Cost Saving Measures within the plant expenses. Identify and execute hard and soft cost savings.
  • Utilize lean tools to drive improvement in productivity of the site. Use of OEE and VSM to drive productivity improvement.
  • Ensure small capex is led and executed by the plant team and participate in large capex projects as defined by stage gate process.
  • Fostering an environment of continuous improvement where all associates are involved in the improvement process and there is constant interaction with plant leadership and associates on the floor.
  • In coordination with R&D, support new product introduction stage-gate processes and continuously improve existing products.
  • Ability to prioritize plant issues based on operational and business priorities and provide clear direction to the team.

 

Context and environment

  • A fast paced, high pressure environment where you are involved in a wide variety of functions and activities.
  • You will participate in activities within the plant and also outside the plant.
  • Heavy use of computer software, both PC based and enterprise system, combined with frequent interpersonal communication.
  • Expectation is that at least 25% of your time will be spent on the floor working with the site leadership team, supervisors and operators. Lead through the plant leadership team, but set the example on the floor.
  • Ability to travel up to 20-25% travel if needed for business meetings and/or to provide oversight for additional site locations

 

Accountabilities (purpose)

  • Leadership of plant activities to meet plant and business objectives.
  • Accountable for all aspects of plant performance.

 

Qualifications / experience required

  • BS or MS in Engineering or related discipline
  • 7 - 10 years’ experience in Management of Manufacturing Operations as a Plant Manager or 10+ years as a production/operations manager of a large site
  • Experience in Project Management, Process Engineering and Regulatory for a total of at least 5 years
  • Experience in a PSM or other regulated facility is desired
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and Demonstrated ability to effectively lead change in a team environment
  • Experience with Lean/6 Sigma Manufacturing
  • Ability to manage competing priorities
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
