Job Title:    Maintenance Mechanic


Situation in organization


Reports directly to the Maintenance Supervisor

Job dimensions

Performs mechanical maintenance of all chemical plant process equipment and minor repairs to buildings and grounds

Key Activities and responsibilities

Maintenance (80%):

  • Understands and executes all critical procedures in the execution of maintenance activities.
  • Effectively troubleshoots mechanical problems in the field
  • Inspect and repair all buildings and grounds, including underground services
  • Repair, install, modify and service all plant equipment
  • Executes all tasks necessary to support plant operations, such tasks may be of an unskilled or skilled nature
  • Tests equipment worked on for proper operation prior to turnover to production
  • Provides feedback to supervision pertaining to any abnormal equipment observations
  • Ensures proper documentation of work order status
  • Performs job scoping and planning as required

Other duties (20%)

  • Drives a forklift and operates lift equipment (boom, scissor left) as needed
  • Maintains a clean work environment
  • Other duties as assigned

Context and environment


  • Participates in HES activities provided by site management and Arkema Inc. (e.g., Behavioral Base Safety, SafeStart, etc.)
  • Supports and promotes the reporting of all health, safety, environmental, near-miss, accident or injury incidents
  • Supports full compliance of all Safety related regulatory requirements; OSHA, PSM, and Company policies and programs
  • Supports Loss Control policy, AIMS, ISO 9001 and ISO 45001 management systems
  • Complies with all external regulatory requirements, industry best practices and internal policies
  • HSEQ: Ensure that all incidents are reported and appropriately investigated and corrective actions implemented. Ensure that all department members follow required HESQ training. Demonstrate commitment to all loss control matters through high visibility and actions


Required Education/Qualifications /Work experience


  • HS Diploma and 5+ years of experience in industrial maintenance; prefer chemical manufacturing. 
  • General mechanical, electrical, welding and fabrication experience.
  • Basic skills in MS Office; knowledge of SAP preferred
  • Able to be on call and work overtime as need to keep plant running
  • Able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs and work at elevated heights (platforms, scaffolding, ladders)
  • Able to wear a respirator and enter confined spaces.
  • Maintain proficiencies in the following:
        • Use of power equipment (power hand tools, grinders, drill press, saws, press)
        • Pipefitting(layout, piping codes, material selection, pressure testing, fabrication, threading, bending, installation)
        • Rigging (international flagging techniques, proper sling selection/use, developing lifting plans)
        • Rotating equipment (couplings, alignment, oil change, belt  and bearing replacement)
        • Pumps (change oil, replace seals, installation, rebuilding, operation characteristics of multiple types)
        • Agitators (change oil, troubleshoot, installation)
        • Conveyor Systems
        • Fabrication (reading prints, developing isometric drawings, follow engineering standards)
        • Reading and understanding equipment drawings, manuals, and documentation
        • Welding certifications for stainless
        • Relief Device Inspection and replacement


  • Good verbal and written communications skills
  • Good analytical and troubleshooting skills
