Situation in Organization

This position reports directly to the NA Quality Manager at the Birdsboro, PA Plant.


Job Dimensions

Arkema’s Specialty Polyamides Business Unit is the worldwide leader in the Long Chain Polyamides Market, with Production Sites, Sales Offices and Research and Development Centers in North America, Europe, China and Japan.

  • This position requires Specialty Polyamides Quality systems and processing expertise for our Rilsan® PA-11,Rilsamid® PA-12 and Orgalloy® PA Alloys product lines.
  • This position coordinates the external and internal nonconformance investigations, systems and reporting efforts.
  • This position interacts with global R&D, Sales, Business Development and Manufacturing teams drive continuousimprovement of product quality, performance and repeatability.
  • This position will be responsible for the trouble shooting, upkeep and implementation of Quality ControlInstrumentation and Testing Procedures with intent of improving efficiencies, repeatability and reducing inherentvariability of control testing.
  • This position coordinates the North American collaboration with our various Quality Control Laboratories in France, Japan, and China.
  • This position supports Product Stewardship and Processing Trials within North America.


Key Activities and Responsibilities



  • Safety is paramount in daily work practices. The individual should be experienced in laboratory work and be familiarwith standard laboratory health and safety practices.
  • Respects the site safety protocol and participates regularly in safety programs and initiatives.
  • Actively promotes safe behavior, and takes responsibility for personal safe lab operation.


Demonstrates Technical expertise in Quality Systems and on Rilsan®, Rilsamid® and Orgalloy® material

  • Organizes and analyzes data, explains conclusions/outcomes to management, production and research personnel.
  • Coordinate and lead quality investigations and validations.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of and proficiency in Quality Control concepts and testing procedures.
  • Coordinate and lead product investigations and process validations.
  • Ability to interact with the mechanical and analytical test laboratories.


Coordinates External and Internal Nonconformance Systems

  • Ethically maintains with precision and vigor the tracking systems for External and Internal Nonconformance
  • Coordinates and/or conducts fair assessments with Production and Technical Service personnel to determine theroot cause of non-conformances.
  • Coordinates the efforts laboratory, analytical or processing investigations of non-conformances.
  • Elicits and/or proposes corrective actions and advocates for their implementation at internal or external locations.
  • Creates concise, accurate reporting for each external nonconformance in 8D format for distribution to plaintiff party.
  • Creates a comprehensive monthly, quarterly and yearly overview of non-conformaces; determining trends andinsights to be shared with the Technical Polymers Business


Leads Quality Control Troubleshooting Investigations and Improvement Projects 

  • Actively leads Quality Control Improvement Projects to improve efficiencies, repeatability and reduce inherentvariability of the solution.
  • Clearly outlines project details, goals and milestones through stakeholder approved charters and delivers timelyexceptional results.
  • Engages active personnel in solutions to ensure integration into process flow.
  • Leads Capital Expense and Procurement activities for Quality Control Laboratory.


Context & Environment

  • Supports the site HES policy and complies with all regulatory and internal requirements
  • Participates in HES activities provided by site management and Arkema Inc. (e.g., Behavioral Base Safety, SafeStart, etc.)
  • Supports and promotes the reporting of all health, safety, environmental, near-miss, accident or injury incidents


Required Education/Qualifications/Work Experience

  • BS in Engineering, preferably related to material science, polymer chemistry or polymer processing
  • Experience in chemical industry, thermoplastic polymers is strongly preferred. Expertise in the field of polymer processing or quality control is desirable.
  • Strong background in quality management systems from conception to closure.

  • Understands functional group’s products and technologies.
  • Understands when to operate under a CDA.
  • Needs to be fully computer literate and be able to effectively use Office 365 Suite (Excel, Word and PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Ability to work effectively with other team members on a global basis
