Our polymer manufacturing plant in Birdsboro, PA is looking for a Production Supervisor to oversee daily production operations. Arkema is a world-class producer of specialty materials including acrylic monomers, adhesives, emulsion systems, fluorochemicals, fluoropolymers, functional additives, hydrogen peroxide, specialty polyamides and thiochemicals. 

 

The Production Supervisor is responsible for the daily oversight of all shift operations and employees. Directs daily plant activities as assigned by the Operations Manager in order to achieve plant goals in health, safety, environmental, quality, productivity, and cost effectiveness. Coordinates all daily operations efforts and associated activities to ensure an injury free site. This position reports directly to the Operations Manager and works closely with the Production Specialist.  An hourly production shift will report their daily activities to this position (approximately seven employees). The work schedule is a rotating 12hr shift, 4 days on and 4 days off. 

 

Key Activities: 

 

Production

 

  • Understands shift priorities and allocates resources as needed to achieve plant goals.
  • Required to stay current on all process areas, changes, installations, and track issues or work order status to ensure resolution.
  • Responsible for shift reporting including the shift turnover log, providing explanation for production variances, and manage all daily reports as required. Evaluate and document non-routine task evaluations as needed.
  • Hold shift employees accountable for housekeeping and safety of their respective areas.
  • Reinforce expectations for process discipline through use of all required tools (daily operating instructions, process data sheets, LIMS, OSI/PI, etc.).
  • Front-line assistance in troubleshooting of production problems.  Work with support personnel to resolve as needed.
  • Prepare production blend sheets for finishing department.  Manage material usage variances (MUV) and blocked stock.
  • Prepares for and facilitates all-hands shift communication. Conduct safety meetings as needed,
  • Ability to perform QC testing as needed for moisture, yellowness index and visual impurities.
  • Provide training as required (for example, LOTO)

 

Leadership 

 

  • Mentoring and coaching of shift employees in order to meet plant goals.
  • Utilize disciplinary action as required to enforce policies and procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with other members of the management team, peers and subordinates.
  • Sustain SMART culture daily: drive participation in meetings, identify needs within team, coach employees to enhance ownership and problem solving.
  • Shape behavior of the workforce by enforcing standards of safety, quality and standard operating procedures.  Reinforce all employees’ efforts in the preparation of standard documents.
  • Demonstrate safety leadership- ensure shift employees follow all safety procedures.  This includes utilization of required personal protective equipment (PPE), and full knowledge and administration of high risk procedures.

 

Support Activities

 

  • Perform accident/incident investigations and complete related computer entries.  Lead teams in performing complex investigations as required.
  • Responsible for timely and accurate timekeeping for production employee payroll.
  • Assist in monthly accounting close by review and closure of production paperwork as needed.
  • Assume emergency coordinator in all instances of a plant emergency.  Direct combined assets of emergency team toward evaluation of incident and recovery from emergency conditions.  First Aid/CPR certification required.
  • Actively support the Behavioral Based Safety Training (BEST)

 

Required Education/Qualifications: 

 

  • HS Diploma or GED required
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Prior supervisory or leadership experience required
  • Proficient knowledge and use of computer systems and software
  • SAP knowledge preferred
