Operations Manager Job

The Arkema Birdsboro, PA plant is seeking an Operations Manager. This position will report directly to the Plant Manager and is responsible for six salaried direct reports and all hourly plant operators.
The operations manager is responsible for the safe, reliable and efficient operations of the production and logistics activities of the plant, in order to achieve our business objectives. This role provides leadership to assure loss prevention within the plant involving personnel, equipment and materials. Meets business and customer demands and expectations through continual improvement in product and process quality, operates within budget based upon forecasted volume and established cost standards. They will develop personnel to exceed expectations and prepare for career advancement. The Operations Manager is accountable for an operating budget of +/- $5MM and influences a capital budget of +/- $2MM annually.
Responsibilities
Production Operations (50%)
- Accountable for meeting production volume demand as agreed to with Demand Management.
- Organize departmental and capital resources, supervise spending and maintain accountability for performance to the forecast and budget.
- Coordinate manufacturing initiatives to continuously improve the overall performance in the areas of HES, Quality, Productivity and Cost Effectiveness.
- Provide oversight for contractors employed.
- Work with the Maintenance Engineering Manager to direct reliability efforts to improve asset utilization and operational sustainability.
- Lead the successful implementation and ongoing support of effective management systems within the manufacturing organization. Networks with the Plant Manager and teams to integrate and refine the site specific Work Processes.
- Establishes and maintains the communications required to effectively implement and utilize the work processes, ensure consistency and reduce duplication across the manufacturing site.
- Drives the evolution of the SMART culture in BBO. Works with departments to identify needs. Coaches floor employees on techniques to enhance ownership and problem solving. This includes leading the plant digitization efforts in the production area.
- Identifies/recommends cost savings opportunities through various means. I.e.: working with floor employees through the SMART initiative and streamlining work processes.
Safety (20%)
- Ensure plant operations comply with all environmental and safety regulations and requirements.
- Actively participate and insure involvement in behavioral safety process through example, practice and encouragement.
- Prepare, implement, and manage loss control systems. Analyze accidents, make improvements in systems to minimize occurrence of accidents and coordinate the department’s systems with the plant-wide systems, in cooperation with the HES Manager.
Leadership (30%)
- Work closely with other department managers and in a spirit of cooperation to promote teamwork within and between departments.
- Promotes networking within the global BU, sharing of experiences and best practices to reduce duplication of efforts and enhance improvements in process technology, operations, safety, and quality.
- Mentoring and coaching of Shift Supervisors to meet plant goals
- High profile position within the plant which works closely with every department, sales and marketing, customers, and the community. Has direct daily involvement and is included in negotiations with the Teamsters Local 429 Union.
Requirements
- Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering
- Minimum of ten (10) years experience in a manufacturing environment
- Working knowledge of text processing, spreadsheets, database creation and usage
