Arkema in Birdsboro, PA is hiring for a Mechanical and Reliability Engineer to provide the plant with an authoritative source of knowledge for improving plant mechanical and reliability performance as well as manage and maintain Plant Mechanical Integrity (MI) systems to ensure compliance with all standards using one or more engineering or technical disciplines. This position reports to the Maintenance and Engineering Manager. 

 

KEY ACTIVITIES

 

Maintenance & Reliability

  • Works directly with operators, engineers, technicians and outside vendors to identify and implement process and equipment changes to improve plant equipment reliability and reduce equipment downtime.
  • Assists operations in troubleshooting and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) of process problems using equipment and control systems (PLC/DCS) knowledge
  • Identifies repetitive equipment failures and develops corrective actions to improve performance and quality.
  • Monitors Key Performance Indicators for the maintenance department using SAP and other tools.

 

Mechanical Integrity (MI)

  • Assist in the development of, and maintain, Plant MI Policy and update to ensure consistent and cost effective compliance with Corporate and Industry Standards.
  • Assist in the development of, and maintain, metrics tracking progress on MI and reliability issues.
  • Assist in the development of, and maintain, cost effective MI procedures, which may include purchasing, installing, repairing and/or using special tools or equipment.
  • Maintains MI records

 

Capital Investments

  • Plans and oversees capital installations and investment projects to ensure completion in a timely fashion and within budget.
  • Coordinates project resources, schedules, budgets, start-ups, trial runs, and stakeholder communications.
  • Provides technical engineering support and oversight for maintenance/process improvement and cost reduction projects.

 

Plant Involvement

  • Participates in plant safety, health and environmental programs to drive continuous improvement.
  • Prepare Management of Change documentation for process and equipment changes and train personnel as required.
  • Leads pre-startup safety reviews (PSSRs) as well as PHAs.
  • Makes polished professional presentations to plant personnel, plant visitors, corporate management, professional organizations and agencies.
  • Works on Corporate and / or Plant teams to share best practices and learn from other Arkema sites.

 

Required Education/Qualifications /Work experience

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering/Engineering Technology or related required, 3+ years experience preferred.
  • Ability to conduct basic studies and analysis and apply standards for equipment used in chemical process operations.
  • Ability to read and develop technical drawings.
  • Basic computer skills required, including use of spreadsheet and word processing software. Use of modeling software is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with federal health, safety & environmental regulations for chemical industry is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with principles of Process Safety (PHA, LOPA, Safety Instrumented Systems) is beneficial.
