This position is based out of the Birdsboro, PA plant.

 

KEY ACTIVITIES

 

Maintenance & Reliability

  • Works directly with operators, engineers, technicians and outside vendors to identify and implement process and equipment changes to improve plant equipment reliability and reduce equipment downtime.
  • Assists operations in troubleshooting and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) of process problems using equipment and control systems (PLC/DCS) knowledge.
  • Identifies repetitive equipment failures and develops corrective actions to improve performance and quality.

 

Mechanical Integrity (MI)

  • Develops and manages Plant MI Policy to ensure consistent and cost effective compliance with Corporate and Industry Standards.
  • Develops and maintains metrics tracking progress on MI and reliability issues.
  • Develops and implements cost effective MI procedures, which may include purchasing, installing, repairing and/or using special tools or equipment.
  • Maintains MI records and PM work orders.

 

Capital Investments

  • Plans and oversees capital installations and investment projects to ensure completion in a timely fashion and within budget.
  • Coordinates project resources, schedules, budgets, start-ups, trial runs, and stakeholder communications.
  • Provides technical engineering support and supervision for maintenance/process improvement and cost reduction projects.
  • Develops monitors and maintains plant capital within budget requirements.

 

Plant Leadership

  • Participates in plant safety, health and environmental programs to drive continuous improvement.
  • Prepare Management of Change documentation for process and equipment changes and train personnel as required.
  • Participates in / leads pre-startup safety reviews (PSSRs) as well as PHAs.
  • Supervise All Plant Maintenance Department activities and personnel as required; e.g., when Maintenance manager is on vacation.
  • Makes polished professional presentations to plant personnel, plant visitors, corporate management, professional organizations and agencies.
  • Works on Corporate and / or Plant teams to share best practices and learn from other Arkema sites.

 

CONTEXT AND ENVIRONMENT

 

  • Capable of leading teams of individuals from various disciplines and backgrounds.  Manages plant maintenance activities and responsibilities efficiently creating a positive environment.  Evaluates multiple scenarios to determine the most cost-effective solution(s.)  Anticipates potential problems and solves them before they adversely impact production capacity, product quality and / or compliance.  Makes the right decision at the right time and knows how to recover if things go wrong.  Occasional shift work and travel may be required.  Directly supervises maintenance activities as required using interpersonal skills to influence and motivate others.  Constantly searches for ways to do more with less.  Works with constantly-tightening product specifications, standards and budgets to continuously improve facility performance. 
  • Supports the site HES policy and complies with all regulatory and internal requirements
  • Participates in HES activities provided by site management and Arkema Inc. (e.g., Behavioral Base Safety, SafeStart, etc.)
  • Supports and promotes the reporting of all health, safety, environmental, near-miss, accident or injury incidents

 

Required Education/Qualifications /Work experience

 

B.S. or M.S. in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university or college and 1-3 years experience in industrial setting preferred OR relevant demonstrated ability in chemical plant or maintenance operations with emphasis on equipment mechanical integrity.  Developed skills in statistics, computers (spreadsheets, presentations and word processing), and technical writing are required as well as a thorough understanding of the application of a broad range of principles and theories, primarily within one engineering discipline.  Significant knowledge of plant maintenance excellence and techniques is required including a working knowledge of API engineering and mechanical integrity standards.
