Arkema Inc. is actively recruiting for a Lab Supervisor to support our Beaumont facility.  At Arkema, our Lab Supervisor will oversee the technical aspects and daily activities of the Laboratory team including direct supervision of laboratory hourly technicians and two Chemists.  The Lab supervisor ensures lab equipment and instrumentation is properly maintained and calibrated in accordance with established procedures and ensures systems and resources are in place through day-to-day direction and control strategy for the laboratory team.

This position is responsible for, but not limited to:

  • Promote safe operations by following OSHA guidelines and using SDS
  • Provide analytical data to plant personnel, corporate personnel, and external customers so that each can make accurate decisions
  • Assist in maintaining configuration control of the quality management system by conducting internal audits of the EDMS
  • Participate on the Internal audit team and in internal audits to ensure effectiveness
  • Ensure analyses used to generate data are precise and accurate by using in-house methodology
  • Develop unique methodologies using sound chemistry/analytical knowledge, acceptable laboratory techniques, and utilizing ASTM methodologies when applicable
  • Program and maintain software applications specific to instruments and data application by being a software administrator (LIMS & Compass CDS)
  • Supervise the development and maintenance of SQC charts, spreadsheets, and analytical results
  • Effectively maintain and establish improved methodologies for wet chemistry, GC, IC, and TOC
  • Determine acceptable variability factors for analyses
  • Calibrate, troubleshoot, and repair instrumentation
  • Utilize budgeted funds and resources ethically and responsibly
  • Review, revise, and develop standard lab procedures for analyses, calibrations, and trainings
  • Inform, educate, and train personnel on new or recent changes to analytical procedures and test methods
  • Manage, plan, coordinate, and implement special projects as required
  • Maintain water operator license
  • Oversight, management, and/or coordination of the training and training records for the laboratory team
  • Proactively communicates scheduling issues and/or problem/performance resolutions to departmental managers
  • Proactive – Drive efficiencies on the day-to-day work and anticipate the needs in the lab related to supplies, projects, etc.
  • Fosters a positive work environment and plans and participates in team-building activities
  • Strong leadership and ability to drive change

 

To be considered for this role, the following is required:

  • Bachelors of Science Degree – Chemistry degree preferred
  • 5+ years experience in the laboratory setting in positions with increasing responsibility, preferably in a chemical/petrochemical environment
  • Prior supervisory leadership experience strongly preferred
  • Gas and liquid chromatography experience required
  • Experience designing basic training requirements, revising and writing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and guidance documents
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast paced in environment
  • Excellent organizational, team building, scheduling, and communication skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Project, Outlook, and PowerPoint)
