Job Dimensions

This position reports directly to the Alsip HESQ Manager and is based in Alsip, Illinois.  The job holder’s primary responsibility is to maintain compliance with the following Health and Safety regulations in accordance with federal, state, and local laws as well as corporate policies:

  • Process Safety Management of Highly Hazardous Chemicals regulation 29 CFR 1910.119 (OSHA);
  • Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response regulation 29 CFR 1910.120 (OSHA);
  • Chemical Accident Prevention regulation 40 CFR 68 (EPA).
  • Site Facility Security Officer maintaining compliance with all DHS requirements under the CFATS Program.


Key Activities & Responsibilities

  • Ensure assigned compliance tasks in the Task Lists are completed in a timely manner.
  • Assist with ER training, maintaining the readiness and capabilities of the plant’s emergency response plan.
  • Work with business IH Subject Matter Expert to implement site Industrial Hygiene program including monitoring plan development, recordkeeping and communication.
  • Leads and manages components of AIMS element 8. Co-manages components of AIMS element 4&6.
  • Schedule and coordinate required site safety assessment, inspection and training with site personnel.
  • Review and maintain all HES procedures and work instructions, aka SP, SOP, PWI to ensure safety and compliance.
  • Participate in all MOC, PHA, and PSSR meetings. Member of Site PSM team.
  • Ensures workplace safety by conducting safety observations and reviews while adhering to safety regulations and procedures.
  • Participation in Root Cause Investigations for any/all HSE Incidents or Events.
  • In-Field Operator Engagement on Safety Behaviors and Actions (BBS coaching, guidance etc.)
  • Acts as Employee Case Management Coordinator, provide assistance with Case Management of potential or actual injuries
  • Site Homeland Security Coordinator
  • Develop site drill schedule and co-ordinate it with Operations and Fire Department
  • Act as ISO45001 Coordinator
  • Continuous improvement of HES programs to ensure compliance with all regulatory and permitting requirements related to Industrial Health, Occupational Safety and Environment.
  • Ensures compliance with HE&S requirements and effective implementation of the various global HE&S management systems, work processes, and data management systems.
  • Recognizes and analyzes HE&S risks present in the work environment and assists the Team in the development of programs, procedures and /or work processes to mitigate those risks and ensure compliance.
  • Maintain all safety, environmental records and regularly report HES data and performance to local and other stakeholders.
  • Participate in all ACR Regional and Global Engagement Meetings (WSM, Monthly Global, Corporate meetings etc.)
  • Identify and communicate potential gains or possible improvements to the management system. Participate in HSEQ activities provided by the site management, Arkema Coating Resins and Arkema, Inc Acts as the liaison between the Business Unit, Arkema Inc., and site HES network.
  • Comply with Regulations, Legal and Internal Requirements as made known by the site and by the business unit (BU)
  • Review work areas for potential losses, Near Misses and Report hazards to the direct supervisor.
  • Report Incidents or Accidents to the direct supervisor.
  • Comply with the HSEQ Policy.
  • Ensures workplace safety by conducting safety observations and reviews while adhering to safety regulations and procedures.
  • Assist onsite HSEQ Manager with various tasks as delegated and assigned


Required Education/Work Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in health, safety, environmental disciplines or equivalent certifications/experience, strongly preferred. 
  • Extensive medical and emergency response experience, training and capabilities
  • A working knowledge of the following federal health and safety regulations: OSHA 29 CFR 1910.119 Process Safety Management of Highly Hazardous Chemicals; OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120 Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER); EPA 40 CFR 68 Chemical Accident Prevention
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and Power Point is essential.
